Allen Carr was chain-smoking 100 cigarettes a day, despite the fact that his sister, Marion, and his father had died prematurely of lung cancer. After repeated failed attempts to stop smoking, Allen's conversion into a non-smoker was as dramatic as it was totally unexpected. About the Author

Susan Tiefenbrun received her J.D. from New York University Law School, a Ph.D in French literature with distinction from Columbia University, an M.A. in French and a B.S. from the University of Wisconsin where she was Phi Beta Kappa as a junior and graduated Magna Cum Laude. Professor Tiefenbrun is Director of the Center of Global Legal Studies at Thomas Jefferson School of Law and Director of the LL.M. Programs in International Trade and Investment and American Legal Studies for foreign lawyers. She was awarded the French Legion of Honor, by Presidential Decree in 2003. Her special interests are international law, international business transactions, international intellectual property, international human rights law, and law and literature. She has written a book-length study of Soviet laws and Eastern European joint venture laws, numerous articles on international intellectual property and piracy, international human rights, as well as global sex trafficking. She edited three books on law and the arts, war crimes, and legal ethics. She is currently writing two books involving women's human rights laws and tax-free trade zones in the world and in the United States. She is President of the Law & Humanities Institute West-coast Branch. She founded two international law study abroad programs in France eighteen years ago and in China four years ago and continues to direct them both each summer. Professor Tiefenbrun speaks ten foreign languages.

Julia could feel her skin tear as she ran but she knew she could not stop no matter come what may.Julia prayed as she ran and then she heard the shot ring out.She was found by Mary and Lucille two older women who turned out to be sisters were also her saviors and nursed her back to health and then she worked for them and they gave her a safe place to live .Julia still feared for her life and wondered if she was putting Mary and Lucille in danger too .she worked hard around the ladies ranch to pay for her keep and began calling them her aunts.Then one day Along comes a very handsome man who is practically gutted .Julia ,Mary and Lucille worked trying to save his life.Julia wondered at the cruel way he was left to die if it could possibly be Jasper catching up with her .They bathed him and found out his name Grant Gentry and found he had been robbed and left for dead and three ranch hands were dead and his brother Linc is missing .Grant thinks he has to leave until he realizes the extent of his injuries,and that the blood loss has him so weak.The women let him know that the remains of the ranch hands were buried and there was no sign of his brother :Linc who was on the cattle drive with Grant was accused of murder before they left on the drive and Grant knows he is innocent and his other brother Emerson is the sheriff of Rutlers Ridge,can they find Linc and the men who left him for dead and can they prove Linc's innocence .Is the men who attacked Grant and his ranch hands and brother the same Jasper Smith who almost killed Julia and can Julia and Grants growing attraction survive after the way the last man in her life treated her ?Julia decides to go on the run when she believes Jasper has found her .Will she trust Grant and Emerson to keep her safe there is still a lot of story here people so get the book I am ready for book two in this series.I finished this book in one sitting I could not put it down .

WHAT A GREAT BEGINNING FOR A SERIES...

What a read!!! This could be a stand alone, but was an great lead in book. You, have a distant family an adopted family and so much more. Hildie, has done an amazing job again, bringing us into her world of storytelling. With just enough bread crumb trail leading us to the next books. Can't wait for the next!!! *I received a free copy for an honest review.

Grant Gentry is a rancher who wakes up, beaten and bruised, in the home of the Sullivan sisters and their "niece", Julia. They have been caring for him since he and his men were attacked and robbed returning home from a cattle drive. His men were all killed, his younger brother is missing and he was left for dead. He can't remember what happened or the faces of the men who attacked them, but in his dreams he relives the horror of that night as well as the dinstinct, raspy voice of one of their attackers.

Julia is a woman on the run from an abusive relationship. She finds safety in the home of the Sullivan sisters and is helping to care for Grant until he recovers enough to return to his ranch. She is constantly on the lookout for the man she ran away from and is ready to flee at a moment's notice. Grant finds himself wanting to court Julia but she is reluctant to become involved with him. He pursues her relentlessly until she agrees to allow him to court her but still will not agree to marriage.

One of the things I really enjoyed about this story is that Julia and Grant did not hold back the passion they had for each other. Sometimes, with historical pieces, the lead characters cannot give in to their passion because the woman would be considered "spoiled" and lose her place in society. That wasn't the case with Grant and Julia. Neither was worried about what people would say, although they were careful not to flaunt their affair in front of others. I also really liked that Grant quickly realized that Julia was hiding something and he didn't allow her to push him away. The more she resisted, the more he was determined to find out what she was hiding. He didn't try to convince her she needed a man to solve her problems. If anything, he admired her more for her strength.

This was a quick read but there was depth to the story. It also set up a future installment for Emerson, the oldest brother and sheriff. It also left me wondering what happened to Linc, the youngest brother. I would definitely read more about the Gentry's of Montana

Dated, but worth the reading

OK, so a book on modern art last updated in 1975 might not give you an exactly up-to-the-minute perspective on the field. But if you're looking for a sensible introduction to everything from Abstract Expressionism to Pop to Conceptual Art, it's hard to beat Edward-Lucie Smith's little handbook. "Late Modern" is written in a style almost impossible to find today: clear and simple without being condescending; sophisticated without being pretentious. This is a book on art that doesn't try to be a book on philosophy, nor does it assume the reader to be incapable of intelligent thought, like so much written today. Another element that distinguishes "Late Modern" from contemporary textbooks is the author's willingness to take a stand: his indictment of Bernard Buffet is direct and uncompromising, as is her criticism of Giacomo Manzu, R. B. Kitaj, and the late work of Picasso, among others. This boldness, this willingness to stamp a personal interpretation without descending into pointless rhetoric, gives the book a liveliness that, ironically, gives it an immediacy seldom found in works written in the thirty years since. The author's faults are the faults of age: writing so close in time to the creation of these works, Lucie-Smith did not have the advantage of hindsight, and some of his judgements (especially his predictions on the future course of art) seem a little off the ball. But on the whole he succeeded remarkably well in judging which artists would hold up over time, and displayed a remarkably acute sense for analysis. The book offers a dual pleasure: it is both a highly satisfying introduction to modern art and a fascinating insight into the situation of art and art criticism at a pivotal moment in it's history.

Outstanding reference on British Freemasonry

The first edition of this book was published about 1950. This is a broad survey of Freemasonry covering English, Scottish and Irish aspects and written by an English author. Unlike many earlier books on Freemasonry which are often available in reprinted form, this book is readable and remains an invaluable and authoritative reference source. Jones also wrote a book on the Royal Arch, also highly recommended. A CD version containing both books is available.

Excellent Colonial America Social History...

A first-rate social history of the five leading cities in the American colonies. I first read this book c. 1971 for a weekend history course I was taking at Univ. of Nebraska at Omaha. I still have the paperback textbook, and will read it again someday. Truly, a classic work.

This is a great book. No, it isn't new or flashy, but it is an intelligent, well written, very useful account of the rise of cities of colonial America. If you want to understand the beginnings of urban life in the thirteen colonies, this is the book to read first.

Okay, i haven't finished the book yet, but I'm about half way and I am enjoying the story (for the most part...). For those who want authentic regency romance with innocent foreplay like a true Jane Austen inspired novel, please look elsewhere. The language is very modern, sometimes even slang and innapropriate. It's also glaringly obvious this book did not have a professional editor of any kind. There a spelling mistakes, incorrect word usage ("due" instead of "do") and missing words entirely. There are sentanced that repeat and sometimes I have to stare at a sentance to see what the author actually meant to say (because she forgot a word or used the wrong word). I read the first chapter of this book on Wattpad and, honestly, it should have been the entire book on Wattpad and not published on Kindle, it's not ready yet. Luckily it's cheap so if you can get passed the grammar and spelling errors (and the sex scenes...) Then go for it. Otherwise go back to Wattpad and check out some other (better written and free) books like " Nothing Like the Novels" by FromPastToOpen on Wattpad. I just read that one earlier today and I enjoyed it a lot more than this one (so far).

A Charming & Smexy debut novel!

I have to admit, as someone who mostly reads horror/paranormal YA/NA and not a lot of Jane Austen type stuff, this book charmed the hell out of me. Courtney created refreshing, likeable characters that roped me in immediately. The story follows Beth, a twenty three year old in desperate search of a suitor because society has her rapidly descending into spinsterhood. When she receives an offer of an arranged marriage, her fantasy of how her life should be quickly shatters and reality sets in. (No spoilers, I promise). This story appeals to me because its about choices and the reasons we make them and how sometimes we don't know what we want until we have it. This is very well written for a debut and I admire when an author isn't afraid to add a little sexy to the story to up the stakes and still keep it tasteful. Well done!
