What the "church" doesn't want you to read

This book shows what is wrong with the church: paganism infiltration of the True faith in Messiah Yeshua (Jesus). It shows how paganism was introduced into the church from the beginning and shows what is now called "christianity" is a far cry from the truth taught in the early church in the first century.

It is a hard message for most and most will reject it. Yeshua said that the road is NARROW and FEW will find it. He knew paganism would take over what is called Christianity. paganism even took over in the Holy Temple in Ancient Israel (Ezekiel chapter 8) and they told the prophets Adonai (God) sent to go away, that they will worship God THEIR way. They refused to listen to the truth just like the so-called "church" refuses to listen to the truth today.

I HIGHLY recommend this book and will be purchasing more copies for family and friends that are still entrenched in romanism (through the baptist "church")

Excellent work

Well researched book on how sun-worship has unwittingly slipped into mainstream Christianity. I especially recommend the section on Easter. After reading it you will wonder why Churches celebrate Easter at all. Christ was crucified on Passover and instructed us to remember his crucifixion, not the resurrection. Easter was an ancient fertility ritual and bunnies and eggs are all symbols of fertility. Easter is only in the bible once and is a mistranslation of the word that means Passover. Interesting reading!!

Historical look at sun worship.

This book gives a lot of information about the worship of the sun/false gods in the Chaldean,Assyrian,Babylonian,Greco-Roman,and Medo-Persian cultures.

Mr.Rives lists the names that these false gods were called by the various people that worshipped them.

He explores where some of the modern church traditions came from. The holidays such as Easter and Christmas are examined.

This book is literally "packed" with Bible quotes.

The chapter on the Sabbath and it's history was excellent! Mr.Rives writes about his personal study and experiences regarding observing the Sabbath.

The short chapter on early church history was concise and well-written.

The chapter about Paul's letters and greek word meanings in the New Testament was well-done also.

If you are looking for a detailed,Bible-based book about church traditions,I recommend this book!

About the Author
Ross Bolleter is a Zen teacher in the Diamond Sangha tradition. He trained with Robert Aitken and John Tarrant, and received Transmission from them in 1997. Ross Bolleter teaches in Australia and New Zealand. He is a composer with numerous CD releases, especially in the field of ruined piano. His book of poems, Piano Hill, was published by Fremantle Press in 2009, and was the subject of a television documentary aired in Australia and New Zealand.

Essential reading for all Zen students – and a life expanding experience for readers in any tradition or no tradition.

If our experience of emptiness has been genuine, it informs our engagement with the differentiated world. As the experience of emptiness fades, we don’t attempt to recreate it. Instead we enter our life fully, uniting with circumstances and facing up to challenges as they inevitably present themselves. This is the realm where we deepen our awakening through our engagement with others in the midst of a suffering world.

Not only is this is the first (thus only) comprehensive treatment of the classic Zen expression, Dongshan’s Five Ranks (inclusive of the ‘Cycle’ or ‘Five Modes of Merit) in English, it is a comprehensive presentation of authentic Zen in the 21st century.

This information and material includes such things as sections on ‘The Philosophical Heritage of the Five Ranks’ (discussing essential Zen sources like Nagarjuna, the I-Ching, and Huayen Buddhism), ‘Working With the Five Ranks’ (discussing approaches for ‘study’ and ‘practice’ including their role in koan training, as well as possible approaches for shikantaza practitioners), and ‘The Five Modes of Time and Timelessness’ (discussing the nature of ‘time’ in Zen/Buddhism). This book also includes two translations of two of the classic treatises on the Five Ranks, one by Caoshan Benji (840-901), and one by Linji Yixuan (d. 866).

One particular characteristic of Ross Bolleter’s expression is his rare insight into the nature and role of language in Zen practice-enlightenment. Unlike many Zen writers, Bolleter does not shy away from the fact (or worse, deny it) that Zen language is not independent of Zen itself. For instance he writes:

…the Five Ranks are not simply expedient teachings. They are a direct presentation of the inexpressible, essential Way. It is true that this is the default mode for all language and communication, but, especially with regard to the Five Ranks, I feel that Dongshan consciously and deliberately crafted them to focus, and as far as possible, to directly present the timeless essential realm. The essential cannot be expressed in words; rather, it is expressed as words.

Little did I understand at first the brilliant clarity of Bolleter's prose

As preparation for a retreat soon to be led by Jack Duffy Roshi, I purchased Dongshan's Five Ranks: Keys to Enlightenment. Little did I understand at first the brilliant clarity of Bolleter's prose. But later on when I also realized that this book is an explication of the brilliant "Song of the Jewel Mirror Samadhi" that I have chanted with great feeling at the monastery for many years, I was delighted. That "Song" is an attempt by a number of Zen masters, over a span of centuries, to provide a clear synopsis of Dongshan's "Five Ranks". As such, I think this book is a treasure. Nine full bows to you from me, too, Ross Bolleter.

About the Author
John Satzinger is a Professor in the Computer Information Systems department at Missouri State University. With teaching and research experience at leading CIS and MIS university programs since 1991, Dr. Satzinger provides a strong managerial focus and powerful vision for this text. His interests and specialties include systems analysis and design, graphical user interface design, object-oriented development, and database and client-server development. He earned his MBA from Cal Poly University and his Ph.D. from the Claremont Graduate University.

Robert Jackson is a retired member of the faculty of the Information Systems Department at Brigham Young University. He has researched, published, and taught in the areas of object-oriented systems development, e-commerce, Web systems, project management, and information systems education. Bringing a wealth of real-world business experience and technical expertise to this book, Dr. Jackson is currently self-employed as a principal in several new e-commerce ventures, where he practices firsthand the analysis, design, and business principles presented in the Seventh Edition. He received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from Brigham Young University.

Dr. Stephen Burd is an Associate Professor at the University of New Mexico, where he has been teaching courses in management information systems, networks, databases, and hardware/software since 1984. The author of more than seven top-selling textbooks for Course Technology and Cengage Learning, Dr. Burd brings significant strengths and industry knowledge to this text. He received his B.B.A. and M.B.A. from the University of Baltimore and his Ph.D. from Purdue University.

Dry and Redundant

This book was assigned for class, and I do not have any other books to compare this one to. Although I'm studying systems design, I find the topic as presented in this book to be redundant and boring. The entire book centers around using the UML (Unified Modeling Language) to draw out various diagrams and flowcharts for how systems should operate. The topic itself is useful for understanding how computer systems should collect, process, organize, store, and output data.

The way the book presents its diagrams, pictures, and information, it feels...obsolete. These are things I could see being heavily implemented in the late 90's and early 2000's, but in 2016 not so much. Everything builds on top of everything else as you progress throughout the book, but it left me scratching my head as to why we learned how to design activity diagrams if we were just going to replace them with a Systems Sequence Diagram later. Or, why did we learn how to design a domain model when a few chapters later, we toss it out in favor of a Domain Class Diagram? Maybe the topic itself isn't really a semester's worth of content, but I feel the book could have cut a lot out and still have provided students with all the same relevant information.

On a positive note, the book provides several "case studies" throughout and provides you opportunity to apply your knowledge to a potential "real world" case. Each chapter builds on the case study so by the end of the book you have completed nearly the entire process of designing an information system, start to finish.

If you are on the fence about whether to rent this book or purchase it to add to your collection, I'll say that I'm glad I rented mine because I'm not sure I will ever reference this book anytime throughout my career.

Worst.Textbook.Ever

A $200 textbook that didn't teach me anything Wikipedia couldn't have done for free. Terrible, terrible book. Only good news is that I can sell it back to Amazon at the end of the semester for about half of what I paid. Buy used if you have to have this book for class, like I did.

Better book on a dying topic

This book is a good book with some good examples about a topic that is slowly dying. Many of the ideas are still relevant even though the book is getting old. I'd recommend this book to people who need it for a course (even if they are supposed to have the new book). If you are trying to get familiar with design patterns on your own, this book will give you more than enough foundation, but I'd try to point you in the direction of some books more related to Agile. This book does cover a lot of topics that it is good to have a foundation in. Overall great book about the topic.

A Masterful Portrait of a Tumultuous Time

For a book that eventually got made into a Steve McQueen movie I was very surprised by the depth of this book.

McKenna does an excellent job of portraying China in transition, told from the points of view of the sailors on the USS San Pablo and from the missionaries at China Light, people whose world is literally shattered. The first part of the book focuses on the protagonist, Jake Holman, as he learns to adjust to life onboard the tiny San Pablo after having transferred from the Pacific Fleet. Everything is going to be perfect, he is going to have his own engine, his own engine room and be able to run it the way he wants to. Except that's not how it is on the San Pablo - most of the engineering work is done by coolies, cheap contract laborers who make their living by skimming off the ship's supplies. Coolies cook, clean, iron uniforms, swab the decks, maintain the engine and do all of the menial work leaving the crew to drill, and drill and drill and drill. The paper tiger of the San Pablo's small crew and it's three pound cannon is the only force guarding American interests - missionaries, factories, mines and more, this far up the Yangtze and appearances have to be maintained no matter how ultimately ineffective the reality may be.

By the second part of the book the Chinese have seen through it. The armies of Chiang Kai-Shek marching under the "gearwheel" flag of the Kuomintang are marching north towards the Yangtze while Bolshevist forces are working and agitating along the northern banks of the river. At first the coolies start skimming more and more off the top, and then they abandon the ship, running overboard and swimming towards a blockade of sampans that have started to surround and harass the ship every day. China is awakening to a sense of self-identity that had been suppressed for a very long time and the men of the San Pablo are despised relics of the old China, an abused and tortured China with no sense of pride or self-worth.

Perhaps one of the most difficult things for the crew to deal with is the fact that the people they are supposed to be protecting, largely missionaries, are full supporters of the Kuomintang. When the San Pablo is told to stand back and only defend American lives, not American property, it is because of the missionaries who have gone home and lobbied for American non-involvement in China. The reader feels the frustration, anger and demoralization of the crew as they are curtailed repeatedly from executing what is supposed to be their primary purpose - protection of American interests. The Chinese have also learned how to make paper tigers of their own from their Russian advisors and waste no time in churning out propaganda and sometimes outright lies about the San Pablo and their men. There is no place for the men of the San Pablo towards the end of the book - their country has for all intents and purposes abandoned them and there is no place in this new, alien China they find themselves in.

One last thing I will mention is that that most readers will be sent running for a dictionary of mechanical engineering by about fifteen pages in. I learned more about steam and marine engines reading this book than I ever expected to.

I read this the year it came out. Long, long ago. It's a well written interesting book, but it's from so long ago most people under the age of 60 won't have a clue. But it's still good.

An unknown facet of the US Navy comes to light and life.

The Sand Pebbles is the story of a small ship, on a small river deep in the heart of China. Unknown by most of the rest of the world but home to the crew of the ship. McKenna, a former Asiatic Fleet Sailor, describes life in the river gunboats of the 1920s with an accuracy and authenticity that is amazing. I could almost feel the heat of the engines and the aromas from the galley.
The book is a study of men in the Navy. They are far from the public eye, doing a job deemed essential by someone in Washington. They are essentially feared by the Chinese and despised by the American missionaries they come into contact with. It must have been a brutal emotional duty to carry out. Yet many men loved it. They spent their careers on the rivers and retired there when their time was up in the Navy.
Jake Holman, the central figure, is not better or worse than most other Sailors of that time. His motivation for joining the Navy were "...Army, Navy or reform school..." and so into the Navy he went. He is a competent machinest mate but has few real people skills. He is a loner on the outskirts of the Navy world. He has bounced from ship to ship and has now reached the end of the line. But even Holman makes friends in the ship as he tries to adapt to his surroundings.
It is an interesting look at the gunboat navy. The crew did military duties and drills but the day to day ship's husbandry were done by Chinese men. Is it any wonder the crew loved China duty once they got there.
One might say that the conclusion of the book is confusing and leaves you feeling troubled. Well it fits with the mission of the gunboat sailors and I think is perfect. Antiimperialists may condem the book and the subject but it was a real part of the American Navy and deserves to be remembered and respected.

Growing up as a African-America Christian; throughout my childhood years in sunday school and church I wondered why everyone in the bible was white. I wondered why in sunday school our bible coloring lessons we always needed a white or yellow crayon and not a brown crayon. I wondered why the pastor always called us "Gentiles". I remember watching the "Ten Commandments" and seeing a white Moses and white Israelites. "Hebrews to Negroes" has shaken the foundation of everything I have been taught for 40 years. I always felt inside that black people in America were "God's Chosen People" from reading the Bible, especially in Deuteronomy 28:16-68. In Deuteronomy 28 it describes the Curses of Israel and it only fits what blacks have gone through for what seems to be an eternity. Daniel 9:9-15 proves that the Children of Israel DID in fact disobey Gods commandments. Therefore they STILL should be going through the Curses of Israel. This Book proves without a shadow of a doubt that the REAL biblical Israelites were Black (People of Color) and not the European Ashkenazi or European Sephardic Jews we see today in America, Europe and Israel. There is no way that Black Jews make up 1% of all the Jews worldwide. Thank you so much for putting this book out. This book HANDS DOWN lays to rest all those (European Jews, Catholics, Muslims) who teach and believe that real Jews are white. This book put chills in my spine and made me realize how much Black America has been tricked and deceived. After reading this book, I see now why It says "Wake up Black America". I am more awake now then ever and I will spread the word to others now that I have read this book.

It's a Good wake up call

This book a good read of someone who has come to knowledge about the truth of an identity, and the history that has made us forget. It is a book that no doubt took a considerable amount of time to complete, and which is well written and thought out. It is a blend of a few different styles; Opinion, Persuasion, and Historical accounts with analysis. It contains the Authors personal beliefs, which make it both compelling, and honestly, challenging to read if you don't accept the same basic premises of faith.

For those of you who do not take the New Testament in a high regard, as you question the validity of all of it or most of it, this book is not entirely for you. However, if you want to understand the perspective of those who accept a Messianic return, and you want to know the evidences provided for faith in the concept, then this book will enlighten you.

I respect the brother for his opinions and views. I disagree with many of the assertions, mostly based on the ideology of the Christ/Messiah and the return, and those statements that are made as a matter of fact when they are opinion. But in general, I appreciated the historical analysis, and the thought that it took to write the book.

I believe that this is a good book for those that are just now coming to knowledge, and those that want to further understand the role of Israelites today. It is most specifically geared to those who are awakening from a christian perspective, and are searching for an identity. Personally, I think that the book maintains a certain level of acceptance of church doctrine promoted by the oppressors, however it is an obvious step in the right direction. I would absolutely invite the author to dinner to discuss the entirety of our differences, as I can tell that the information is well researched and reflected upon.

As with any presentation of knowledge, we must question everything we all say and hold as fact, and I would impress upon the readers to verify the information presented here. I think that the best way forward in the community, is critical inquiry, and diligent study.

About the Author
Andrew M. Leeds, PhD

, is a California-licensed psychologist and marriage and family therapist with 40 years of experience in the private practice of psychotherapy. He practices in Santa Rosa, CA. He is the director of training for Sonoma Psychotherapy Training Institute, which offers basic and advanced training programs in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy. Dr. Leeds received his BA in psychology with honors in 1972 from the University of California at Santa Cruz, an MA in clinical psychology in 1974 from Goddard College, and his PhD in clinical psychology in 1983 from International College. After early training in gestalt and somatic psychotherapies, Dr. Leeds served a 2-year internship as program coordinator for an alcohol abuse treatment program in Santa Cruz and received his license as a marriage and family therapist before going on to obtain his doctorate. During his doctoral program, he studied cognitive behavioral therapy, Ericksonian hypnosis, and self-psychology. Dr. Leeds received his initial EMDR therapy training in 1991 and became an EMDR therapy training supervisor that same year. In 1993, he became an EMDR therapy trainer. He has conducted basic EMDR therapy trainings for 15,000 clinicians at 140 training programs in the United States, Canada, France, England, and Japan. He has presented papers on EMDR therapy for regional, national, and international conferences. He is the author of a book, book chapters, and journal articles on EMDR therapy. He served for 2 years on the Standards and Training Committee of the EMDR International Association (EMDRIA) and for 3 years as an elected member of the EMDRIA Board of Directors. Journal of EMDR Practice and Research

and, in 2013, was the guest editor for volume 7, issue number 3. He is an EMDRIA-Approved Consultant providing consultation to EMDR therapy clinicians around the world. Dr. Leeds contributed to the evolution of EMDR by articulating, publishing, and teaching the EMDR procedure that he named

Resource Development and Installation

(RDI). In 1999, he received an EMDRIA award for creative innovation in the development of EMDR as well as the Ronald A. Martinez PhD Memorial Award. In 2013, he received the Francine Shapiro award from EMDRIA.
